Migraines

A migraine is a neurological condition that causes recurring, often intense headaches accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound, or smells. Unlike a typical headache, migraines can last for hours or even days and may significantly disrupt daily activities. Many people experience warning signs known as aura—such as visual disturbances or tingling sensations—before a migraine begins. Migraines can be triggered by factors like stress, lack of sleep, certain foods, hormonal changes, or environmental stimuli, and they affect millions of people worldwide, making them a common yet complex health condition.

What Are the Different Types of Headaches?

There are several different types of headaches, each with its own causes, symptoms, and pain patterns. Headache pain can vary in location, intensity, frequency, and duration, and may be accompanied by additional symptoms. Many common headache types respond well to chiropractic care, especially those related to muscle tension or spinal alignment. Below are some of the most common types of headaches:

Migraine Headaches: Migraines are characterized by constant, throbbing or pulsating pain that usually starts on one side of the head and may spread to both sides. The most intense pain is often felt along the sides of the forehead and may be accompanied by nausea, light sensitivity, or visual disturbances.

Tension Headaches: Tension headaches typically cause a dull, aching pain in the forehead, temples, or the back of the head and neck. They are commonly triggered by stress, anxiety, fatigue, or emotional tension and are one of the most frequently experienced headache types.

Cervicogenic Headaches: Cervicogenic headaches originate in the bones, joints, or soft tissues of the neck. Pain often radiates from the neck to one side of the head and may extend into the shoulders or arms, making posture and spinal health key contributing factors.
